Alleged unlicensed contractor arrested following Collier County fraud investigation

By Bryanna Sterzenbach

An unlicensed contractor is facing serious consequences after a Collier County Sheriff’s Office investigation revealed a fraudulent scheme involving hurricane impact windows.

According to the Collier County Sheriff’s Office, Michael Allen Rodriguez, 29, was accused of swindling condo owners out of tens of thousands of dollars.

Rodriguez, owner of MCR Construction Pro, allegedly accepted $20,100 in deposits from five Naples condo owners between January and April 2022 for windows that were never delivered. Instead, he used the funds for personal expenses.

Detectives found Rodriguez lacked a valid Florida contractor’s license at that time. He was arrested in Charlotte County on local charges and is awaiting extradition to Collier County on multiple felony fraud charges.

“This case is a terrific example of our detectives’ persistence and commitment to protecting Collier County residents from fraud,” said Sheriff Kevin Rambosk.

Sheriff Rambosk advised residents to verify contractor licensing and insurance. He recommended checking credentials and references and warned against paying the full amount upfront.

Residents can verify a contractor’s license through the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation website.
